Term 3 Holiday Masterclass.

During the Term 3 school holidays, The Pianist Music Academy was delighted to collaborate with POCO Music for a special two-day Holiday Masterclass Program, bringing young musicians together for a day of learning, performing, creating, and connecting through music.

The masterclass was held across two sessions, with our Pre-AMEB students joining us on 30 September, followed by our AMEB Grade 2+ students on 1 October.

More Than Just a Piano Lesson

Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of musical activities designed to develop skills beyond their regular one-to-one piano lessons.

Each student had the opportunity to perform one of their current pieces and receive an individual masterclass with focused feedback on technique, musical expression, interpretation, and performance.

But the day wasn't only about playing the piano!

Students worked together through music theory, aural activities, rhythm games, composition, and group challenges, encouraging them to think about music from different perspectives.

For our more advanced students, we explored key signatures and looked closely at how small musical decisions can completely transform a piece. We discussed how dynamics, articulation, phrasing, character, and imagination can make a performance more expressive, interesting, and personal.

Learning Together

One of the most valuable parts of the program was simply having our students learn alongside other young musicians.

Piano lessons are often an individual experience, but music does not have to be learned alone. Throughout the masterclass, students listened to each other's performances, shared ideas, participated in activities as a team, and encouraged one another.

It was wonderful to see students from The Pianist Music Academy and POCO Music meeting new friends and becoming more confident sharing their music with others.

The collaborative environment also gave students the opportunity to learn not only from their teachers, but from watching and listening to their peers.

Building Confident Young Musicians

At TPMA, we believe music education extends beyond learning the correct notes.

Our goal is to help students develop confidence, creativity, musicianship, independence, and a genuine understanding of the music they perform.

Programs like our Holiday Masterclass give students the opportunity to step outside their weekly lesson routine and experience music in a different way — through performance, discussion, creativity and collaboration.

We were incredibly proud to see every student participate, perform, ask questions, try new ideas and support one another throughout the two days.

A big thank you to POCO Music for collaborating with us, to our teachers for creating such an engaging learning experience, and to all of the students and families who joined our Term 3 Holiday Masterclass.

We loved making music together and look forward to creating more opportunities for our young musicians in the future.
