OUR STORY
The Pianist Music Academy was founded with a simple belief:
great piano education should build both musical excellence and personal growth.

Drawing from a strong background in piano performance and music education, our Academy was created to provide students with a learning experience that combines traditional musical values with a modern understanding of today's children.
We believe every student learns differently, and that meaningful progress comes from the right balance of structure, encouragement, and individualised guidance.

FOUNDER/DIRECTOR SOPHIA SONG
Teacher Sophia Song is the Founder & Director of The Pianist Music Academy and an experienced piano educator dedicated to nurturing confident, capable, and well-rounded musicians. With a strong commitment to excellence in music education, she is passionate about providing high-quality instruction that develops both technical proficiency and artistic expression. Sophia began her piano studies in South Korea at the age of six and actively participated in piano competitions throughout her childhood and teenage years, consistently receiving Excellence awards and recognition for her musical achievements. These experiences cultivated the discipline, resilience, and performance confidence that continue to influence her teaching philosophy today. Recognised for her musical potential, Sophia was awarded an ECU Scholarship and completed her studies at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), specialising in Piano Performance and Secondary Music Education. During her training, she studied under renowned pianist Anna Sleptsova while developing advanced knowledge in piano pedagogy, performance practice, and music education. Since 2014, Sophia has served as a church pianist and accompanist, regularly performing for worship services, conferences, and community events. She has also participated in numerous solo and collaborative performances throughout her studies and professional career. As an educator, Sophia has successfully guided students through AMEB examinations, competitions, concerts, GATE auditions, and scholarship pathways. She is particularly recognised for developing strong technical foundations, effective practice habits, musical understanding, and confident performance skills in students of all ages and abilities. Sophia specialises in working with both young beginners and advanced students, tailoring her teaching approach to suit each individual’s learning style and goals. Her lessons combine traditional pedagogical principles with contemporary educational strategies, ensuring students receive a comprehensive and engaging musical education. As Director of The Pianist Music Academy, Sophia remains committed to ongoing professional development, curriculum refinement, and educational research, ensuring that every student benefits from a modern, structured, and high-quality learning experience.
TEACHER CAMELLIA
Teacher Camellia is a dedicated piano educator and accomplished pianist with extensive experience in performance, accompaniment, music leadership, and education. Her musical journey began at the age of seven as a church pianist, regularly performing in worship services and community events. Throughout her schooling, she accompanied school choirs and demonstrated strong musical leadership. Following her graduation from John Wollaston Anglican Community School, she returned as a School Accompanist, Piano Tutor, and Chaplain Intern. During her time at John Wollaston, Camellia directed both the Primary Choir and Secondary Vocal Ensemble and accompanied choirs at major events, including the 2023 Carols by Candlelight in Armadale. She also gained valuable leadership experience through her involvement in the Chaplaincy Internship Program. Camellia is currently completing her Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Classical Piano at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). She was awarded the prestigious Delano Scholarship and continues to develop her skills as both a performer and educator. Her achievements include being the joint winner of WAAPA’s 2024 Warana Concerto Competition, a finalist in the Royal Overseas League (ROSL) Chamber Music Competition, and a recipient of the Anglican Church Organ Scholarship Programme. As a teacher, Camellia is known for her thoughtful, patient, and encouraging approach. She focuses on developing strong foundations in technique, musicianship, and confidence while fostering a genuine love of music. Her broad experience in performance and music leadership enables her to guide students with both expertise and care.
TEACHER HANNAH
Teacher Hannah is a dedicated and passionate piano educator at The Pianist Music Academy, known for her warm, encouraging, and supportive teaching style. She believes that every student has unique potential and that meaningful musical growth can be achieved through consistent guidance, patience, and positive reinforcement. Hannah began learning piano at the age of five and has pursued her musical studies with dedication ever since. Throughout her AMEB examinations from Grade 1 to Grade 8, she consistently achieved High Distinctions and Honours, and most recently received an Honours in the AMEB Certificate of Performance. Her achievements extend beyond examinations, including First Prize at the South Suburban Music Society Eisteddfod in 2015 and First Prize in the WA Pianists Competition in 2016. These accomplishments reflect her commitment to musical excellence and performance. Alongside her musical pursuits, Hannah is currently undertaking a combined Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Commerce while continuing her piano studies at the Associate Diploma (AMusA) level under the guidance of Dr. Raymond Yong. As a teacher, Hannah places strong emphasis on building solid foundations in technique, music reading, musicianship, and effective practice habits. Her lessons are carefully structured to help students develop confidence, independence, and a genuine enjoyment of music. Through her patient guidance and enthusiasm for teaching, Hannah strives to create a positive learning environment where students feel supported, motivated, and proud of their progress.
TEACHER RYAN
Teacher Ryan is a dedicated and versatile piano educator at The Pianist Music Academy, known for his detailed approach to musical development and passion for both teaching and performance. He is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Biomedical Science alongside Music studies at The University of Western Australia (UWA) and is preparing for his AMEB Associate Diploma. As a recipient of the prestigious 2025 Delano Scholarship, Ryan was recognised for his musical potential and commitment to excellence in piano performance. He has been actively involved in music since 2014, gaining extensive experience in both solo and collaborative performance settings. During his time at Ursula Frayne Catholic College, Ryan regularly performed as a solo pianist and participated in Jazz Band and Concert Band ensembles. He continues to perform in solo and ensemble concerts through UWA and remains actively involved in music festivals and performance opportunities. His achievements include Outstanding Performance Awards at the 2018 and 2021 Performing Arts Festivals, The Oracle’s Prize in Pianoforte Performance in 2025, and an Honourable Mention in the 2025 Waney Wansborough Piano Competition. Following his High Distinction result in the AMEB Grade 8 Piano examination, he was also invited to perform at UWA’s prestigious Callaway Auditorium in 2023. As a teacher, Ryan focuses on developing strong technique, musical understanding, and confident performance skills. His encouraging and supportive teaching style helps students build solid foundations while fostering a genuine enjoyment of music.
TEACHER WAHNAY
Teacher Wahnay is a warm, enthusiastic, and dedicated piano educator at The Pianist Music Academy who is passionate about helping students develop a genuine love for music. She creates a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable, encouraged, and motivated to learn. Wahnay has a particular strength in working with young beginners and specialises in **early childhood communication and education**, helping young students build strong musical foundations through engaging, age-appropriate, and interactive teaching methods. Her lessons focus on developing confident music reading, healthy technique, listening skills, and effective practice habits from the very beginning. She believes that every student learns differently and strives to tailor her teaching to each child’s individual needs and learning style. Through patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, she helps students build both musical skills and self-confidence while enjoying the learning process. Alongside her teaching, Wahnay is currently pursuing studies and professional experience in the healthcare field. Through placements and work across hospitals, aged care facilities, and disability support services, she has developed strong skills in communication, responsibility, observation, and person-centred care. Her training also includes supporting individuals with diverse learning and developmental needs, further strengthening her ability to work effectively with young children. As a teacher, Wahnay is committed to creating meaningful learning experiences that inspire students to develop confidence, independence, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
